Three Guys in a Basement

I really hope Daly was wearing these pants when trying to explain what happened.

Just when John Daly seems to have his life completely under control… the man is back on the PGA Tour, he played an actual PGA event, and he at elast tried to qualify for the US Open), he goes and makes a driving error.  Sadly, we’re not talking about the driving error like hooking the ball off the tee, but instead this: John Daly has harmed his RV by trying to drive it through a 12′ high tunnel.  Evidently, it’s taller than 12′.  So, when you do the math, that means some of Daly’s RV wasn’t making it through the tunnel.  Luckily, a Jimmy Roberson of Mobile, AL, was nice enough to let the excess RV parts to land on his 1998 Cadillac Seville.  I’m sure all Daly fans are happy that Mr. Roberson was so kind.

When he found out when he was pulled over shortly thereafter, Daly was cooperative.  It looks like Roberson is going to ask for Daly to give him some cash for his efforts, which only seems fair.  One question I have, though, is this

How far did Daly go before he realized he had hit the tunnel?  It appears that only some stuff came off the top of his camper… my guess is satellite dish, etc.  I assume he wasn’t drinking (though that might be a first) since the cops didn’t raise that question, so is it really not that obvious when you hit the top of the tunnel?  I assume if you actually run into the tunnel, you’d know about it, since your car would stop moving.  But I’ve also seen Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.  When Lando Calrissian is flying through the new Death Star, he knocks off the Millennium Falcons’ Satellite.  He reacts like he almost died and says something like, “that was too close!”  And the alien next to him gets all gibberishy and agrees.  I like to think that something similar happened to Daly and he just decided to continue to drive, maybe so that he could also go destroy the Death Star (or at least go dominate a tournament if not the Galactic Empire).
