We all remember the Shark, his hair flowing from the back of his golden helmet, running down the field to catch Brady Quinn’s perfectly placed throws.
Those were the good ol’ days. But then the Shark broke the hearts of thousands of Irish fans who had man-crushes on this delicious athlete. While some swooned only for Quinn, there were others of us also swooned for those precious flowing locks.
When Jeff made the decision to forego what would have surely been a hall of fame career in the NFL to play baseball for the Chicago Cubs (in the Minor Leagues!), there were some of us who fretted that we would not get to see him play for years. However, our wait has been short. This past Friday, our boy Jeff was brought up to the major league club, where his performance has been stellar. And, it appears, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Cubs’ fans have all become enamored with this seductive athlete. Even Ron Santo, the Cubs radio color commentator, can’t stop talking about the beautiful hair that flows from the back of Samardzija’s baseball cap.
Now the talk in Chicago is if Samardzija will become the closer. With an ERA of 2.25 and 5 strikeouts in 4 innings of work, the Shark appears to be in the big leagues to stay. We here at TGIAB.com want to wish the best of luck to Samardzija, and we hope he gets to show off his stuff for another inning or two this evening in an important divisional game against the pesky Milwaukee Brewers. Even if he doesn’t get in to tonight’s game, it appears that the Sun still shines down on everything that the Shark does (as long as Tyrone Willingham isn’t his coach).
