Hall of Famer* Julio Franco Retires

After a playing career that began a year before I was born, Julio Franco has retired after completing what is inarguably the most successful professional baseball career of all time.

He played professionally for 8 teams in the MLB, and for teams in his native Dominican Republic, Japan, Korea, and most recently Mexico.  Hall of Famer Julio Franco holds many prestigous records, including being the oldest player to hit a home run, and the oldest regular position player in MLB history.  Both of these could be added to possible records to never be broken.

*Julio Franco is not actually in the the Hall of Fame yet, but his induction will merely be a formality when he is eligible in 5 years.

  1. Wow, a sad day indeed.

The man had 4,229 hits in his professional career. His professional career was 30 years long. From 19 years old to 49 years old, he got paid to play baseball.

I think we all owe a lot to Hall of Famer Julio Franco.
